A sunrise blessing

When blessed with beauty, let's do something beautiful for our neighbour.

Sunrises over Cochrane lately have been so breathtaking that even the Ornamental Palm in our east-facing living room window has been giving them the OK sign.

In fact, I was so inspired by those sunrises myself that I searched the Web to see what wise people over the years have learned from them. Here’s just a sample:

“After God perfected the sunrise, he created photographers, artists, and poets to ensure his feat remained immortal” —Terri Guillemets. OK, so I took a photo.

“Every sunrise is an invitation for us to arise and brighten someone’s day” —Jheiss Krieg.

Yup, that’s certainly in line with one of my all-time favourite quotes: “Let’s do something beautiful for God” —St. Teresa of Calcutta, “Mother Teresa.” I take her words in the light of Jesus’ teaching that doing something beautiful for our needy neighbour amounts to doing it for God.

And so, allow me to paraphrase lines from the Prayer of St. Francis:

Make me a channel of your sunrises.
Where there is darkness,
Let me bring your light – and hope and joy.

Yes, O wise Palm, that’s OK with me, too. Thanks for the sunrise inspiration.
